About Canada Diagnostic Centres

Our History

Since 1993, Canada Diagnostic Centres has been providing Exceptional Patient Care in the medical imaging field. From MRI scans to mammograms, Canada Diagnostic Centres offers leading edge technology to meet the needs of patients across Alberta and throughout Canada.

Formerly known as Western Canada MRI Centres, Canada Diagnostic Centres opened its doors in Calgary as the first non-hospital private MRI in Western Canada. In the following fifteen years, Western Canada MRI Centres expanded into affiliated locations in Mississauga, Toronto, Hull, Vancouver and the company adopted the new name Canada Diagnostic Centres.

Since 2004, Canada Diagnostic Centres has opened six locations in Alberta. With nine dedicated radiologists and over 75 technologists, Canada Diagnostic Centres services now range from private MRI and CT to publicly covered 4D Ultrasound, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Fluoroscopy, Pain Management injections and X-Ray.

From its beginnings as a private-only MRI centre to today’s multi-modality service provider, Canada Diagnostic Centres continues to uphold its Exceptional Patient Care standards and leading edge diagnostic imaging reputation.

Our Team of Leading Radiologists

Dr. Benjamin Wong, B. Sc, MD, FRCPC – Medical Director

Dr. Wong is one of Canada’s leading MRI Specialists with fellowship accreditation in musculoskeletal, cardiac, and general MRI including neuro and body MRI. His experience includes Head of MRI at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Head of Adult Cardiac and Body MRI at the University of Alberta Hospital. Dr. Wong is fully trained and experienced in CT scanning, ultrasound and interventional radiology procedures for pain management.

Dr. Jay Zelazo, B. Sc, MD, FRCPC – Director of CT

Dr. Zelazo oversees interpretation of all diagnostic and screening CT examinations as well as policy development, protocol selection and staff education at Canada Diagnostic Centres. He is fully trained and experienced in ultrasound, MRI, BMD, fluoroscopy, and interventional radiology procedures. Dr. Zelazo has had training at Harvard Medical School – Brigham & Women’s Hospital in CT Virtual Colonoscopy. Dr. Zelazo has completed a visiting fellowship in Musculoskeletal MRI at Harvard Medical School – Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Robert Davies, BM Sc, MD, FRCPC – Director of Mammography

Dr. Davies is fully qualified to interpret and oversee all imaging exams, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy, and has previously provided these services at the Peter Lougheed Centre and Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary. Dr. Davies is accredited by the Canadian Association of Radiologists for providing mammography, and is certified separately by the American Board of Radiology in all areas of imaging. Dr. Davies trained at the University of Alberta, where he was Chief Resident.

Dr. Brian Loe, B. Sc, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Loe joined Okotoks X-Ray and Ultrasound as the primary radiologist June 2006. Originally from Calgary, he studied at the University of Calgary before completing his MD and Residency at the University of Alberta. Dr. Loe is fully qualified to interpret and oversee all imaging exams, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography, and fluoroscopy.

Dr. Javier Liew, B. Sc, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Liew is originally from Calgary and started with Canada Diagnostic Centres June 2006. He studied at the University of Calgary before completing his MD at the University of Alberta then going on to finish his residency at the University of Western Ontario in London, ON. Dr. Liew is certified by ISCD for bone densitometry.

Dr. H. L. Nancy Kim, MD, FRCP(C)

Dr. Kim trained at the University of Alberta. She is qualified to interpret and oversee CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, and Bone Mineral Densitometry and is certified by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Radiology. Prior to joining Canada Diagnostic Centres, she provided services to Richmond General and Burnaby hospitals in Vancouver, B.C.  She is accredited by the BC Cancer Agency Screening Mammography Program of BC to interpret screening mammograms. Dr. Kim is also a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD) through the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.

Dr. Philip Chen, MD, FRCP(C)

Dr .Philip Chen trained at the University of Alberta and is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as the American Board of Radiology.  He has undergone additional training in Virtual Colonoscopy at UCSF. Dr. Chen is fully qualified to interpret and oversee all imaging exams, including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Mammography, Bone Densitometry and Fluoroscopy. Dr. Chen has published in several academic journals, including Radiology, and presented his research at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. In addition, he is a preceptor involved in medical student teaching at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Kai-Ling Ng, MD, FRCP(C)

Dr. Ng is the principal radiologist at Edmonton’s Westgate clinic. Dr. Ng is fully qualified to oversee and interpret all types of imaging exams including Ultrasound, X ray, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Bone Mineral Density, MRI and CT. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree at the University of British Columbia where she graduated in the top percentile of both her undergraduate and medical school classes and has been the recipient of over 20 academic awards and scholarships, including the UBC Wesbrook Scholar award. She received radiology training at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she was Chief Resident, and additional subspecialty Fellowship training in advanced Body Imaging and Interventional Procedures at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Dr. Ng has extensive professional work experience in Canada and USA, in both the outpatient and inpatient hospital settings, including surgical, trauma, and emergency room radiology. She is certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, American Board of Radiology, and American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Dr. Graham Campbell, MD, FRCP(C)

Dr. Graham Campbell MD LLB FRCPC is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Campbell is fully qualified to oversee and interpret studies in ultrasound, fluoroscopy, mammography, bone mineral densitometry, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance (MR) and radiography. He has also completed a musculoskeletal fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. This fellowship included sub-specialty training in fluoroscopically- and sonographically- guided procedures as well as MR, CT and ultrasound imaging of the spine, bones and joints. Dr. Campbell has a law degree from McGill University and is presently serving on the Alberta Medical Association Representative Forum representing Calgary and area physicians.
