How Can CT Scans Help Me?
CT uses rapid x-ray technology to create detailed images of the internal organs, soft tissue and blood vessels with even greater clarity than conventional x-rays. CT has proven to be valuable in detecting and visualizing:
- cancer of the lung, liver, colon and pancreas
- muscle and bone disorders
- injuries to the hands, feet and other skeletal structures
- vascular diseases that can lead to stroke or kidney failure
- chest and abdominal problems
- sinus conditions
Unlike MRI, CT does not use magnetic waves, so it is considered safe for patients with pacemakers or implanted electronic devices. With most CT exams only taking 10-20 minutes and the shorter bore technology, claustrophobic patients are much more comfortable in the CT setting.
