Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Pre-Exam Preparations

Canada Diagnostic Centres strives to ensure that every patient is both comfortable and well informed before and on the day of his or her exam.

If the patient has ever had METAL IN THEIR EYE, have any IMPLANTED DEVICES, TATTOOS, a PACEMAKER, an ANEURYSM CLIP or MAY BE CLAUSTROPHOBIC, please have them contact our centre prior to their examination. Please also ask the patient to inform us if they have allergies, diabetes, heart or kidney disease or limited mobility.

ABDOMINAL or PELVIC MRI PATIENT PREPARATIONS: NO SOLIDS or FLUIDS, except sips of water, beginning at 10 pm on the evening before the exam. Patients should also take a mild laxative the evening before the exam. These exams are scheduled in the mornings to minimize discomfort.

DIABETICS: Must consult with their physician about medications, diet and insulin before fasting or going on clear fluid diet.
